Train Your Parrot to Accept Oral Medications

By Barbara Heidenreich

This material was originally recorded for an ebook. However it stands the test of time.

The only element that is missing is the step on training for unpleasant tasting fluids. I now usually include using diluted apple cider vinegar for the first unpleasant fluid. As approximations are mastered, you can increase the concentration. I usually only have the parrot accept a few drops. Once this step is fluent, move on to other unpleasant tastes such as a drop of unflavored yogurt, or different flavors of human baby food. Only try these once in awhile. Generally practice with pleasant or neutral flavors to maintain the behavior.

This video is pretty detailed and should be helpful to those of you getting started on this behavior or having challenges getting past certain steps.
